I am using Fedora 10 and I posted an earlier thread "No Emulator Window". The errors I am getting say that they are "Warning" messages. So, by that I am guessing they are not the reason why it won't work.

My question would be does anyone have iSeriesAccess running on Fedora 10?

Thanks in adavance,
Mike

Well I wish I had better news. I have just tried ubuntu 9.04 and I get the same error messages. I'll keep trying but it's not looking good.

Well I got much further but still no 5250 emulation. From the URL below I was able to get setup5250 working and most of iSeriesAccess. Including cwbping which the results are posted below. But everytime I try 5250 emulation I get:

5250: INFORMATIONAL : Build Date: March 2008 (V6R1 1.0).
5250: ERROR : CWB0999 - Unexpected error: unexpected return code 9052

Then after a few seconds I get prompted for my userid and password. I put that in
and a few seconds after that I get a "ca_license_error_popup" window that says
CWB0999 - Unexpected error: unexpected return code 9052 10061.

I have 5722XW1 installed on a V5R4 system and on a separate system I have V6R1 and
5761XW1 installed.

Is there someone that can help me with this? I also have a cwbmedic.tgz file if that will help.

Thanks in advance, I would really appreciate it,
Mike

By the way, I did find a PTF for V5R4 5722XE1 - SI32972. But, sadly,
I already have that PTF applied.

Well, I found out more by using the cwbtrc.

cwbtrc /DT:1 /DPATH:/home/mike /DTICK:1 /HL:1 /HPATH:/home/mike /HTICK:1
I the CWBC0149 over and over.
CWBCO1049 - The System i server application (User defined) is not started, or the connection was blocked by a firewall

After researching CWBC01049 I found an IBM Support document that was exactly what was happening to me.
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=nas1903479a42b18d13d86256f0500447ab5

Problem Summary:
Error message CWBCO1049 - The iSeries Server Application is not started is received when attempting to log on.

Resolution:
The iSeries Access Host Server applications were all started and functioning correctly.

The cause of the problem was a software firewall that was running on the PC. It had inadvertently been configured to block iSeries Access applications from accessing the network. After the firewall restrictions were removed, the iSeries Access connections worked.
Since cwbping works and everything reports in ok I have to assume the Support Doc is right. My problem is that the Support Doc did not say how to fix it. Re-configure the firewall yes, but, what - where- how? I am nowhere near a firewall expert and don't have a clue what to change to make iSeriesAccess emulator work.

Bottom line is that I found the answer to what was wrong, but, I
don't know what to fix.

From testing it looks like the Client is failing to access shared memory with the linux client I believe that they write out the temp licence keys to a shared memory pool.

So my linux OS's are ubuntu 9.1 and Fedora and see a shmget error 2 when starting the ibm5250 to a specific system. Now if I do a connection to a HMC it will work this is again leading me to thinking we are having an issue with the call to shared memory. Firewall is disabled. If I figure out the fix I'll update this post.

On Ubuntu 8.04 ibm5250 is working without problem for me, but due to a change in the PC I'm using for work I had have to change to 9.04 and on this ibm5250 doesn't work anymore with about the same problem described in the first post.

I have the opportunity to check it on both Ubuntu versions, and all I can see as a difference is by using -debug switch for ibm5250 is the following line:
"5250: ERROR : CWB0999 - Unexpected error: unexpected return code 9052"

Both on 8.04 and 9.04 there are the lines:
5250: DEBUG : Return code from CWBLM_REQUESTLICENSE2=9052 h=2000.
5250: DEBUG : Security failed: securityInfoToUse = 0, license_manager_rc = 9052, Prompting for UID and password.

but it didn't stop running after I entered authorisation details.

I'm more than happy to provide any more information about my environment or anything to get this problem corrected, just please specify what I should provide.

On Ubuntu 9.04 I had to:

sudo nano -w /etc/hosts

then comment the ip6-localhost line as below:

  1. The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts
  2. ::1 localhost ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
