It does seem that the default XEN bundle has quite a few bugs - for instance, it does not appear in the case I'm working that it properly initializes the drive space location you provide with the proper formatting or initialization and the install halts without any solid error indicators as to this fact.

Is there a recommendation on updating the RHEL 5.3 OS prior to doing this install?

Has anyone successfully performed a paravirtualized install without running into problems?

(Although I've been working directly with the poster regarding his query, I'm posting a reply here to also help intrepid Xen explorers who follow in his footsteps)

Installation of PV guests is definitely possible, though there are definitely many pot holes along the way to ruin your trip.

One thing to keep in mind is that the PV guest install runs in the context of a Xen PV machine, and in that context, there is very little device driver support. The generic NIC device is the least problem prone, therefore, it is best to choose the network-based install methods. Personally, I've found that loop-mounting an ISO image on your /home/user/public_html subdirectory on a system running Apache, then pointing your HTTP install at that installation source is the simplest, most-likely-to-succeed method.

We successfully created a RHEL5.3 PV guest for the original poster via this method.
