I am trying to use the publish function to publish excel data to my mashuphub installation but am not able to do so.
It keeps asking me to specify the mashuphub gateway, but that has been set correctly (as I am able to get data from the hub).
I am using Excel 2007 and MashupCenter 1.1.
How can I resolve this ?
Thanks in advance,
Taco Hiddink

Taco,
The MashupHub Import technology that has been posted on alphaWorks allows users to import data from MashupHub into an Excel spreadsheet. However, exporting data back from the Excel interface to MashupHub is not yet supported. Instead you can simply upload Excel data by using the MashupHub User Interface. So you would simply go to your local instance of mashup hub such as https://computername.domain.com:9443/mashuphub/client/layout/layout.html . Alternatively, you can use the instance of MashupHub on Greenhouse https://greenhouse.lotus.com/mashuphub/client/layout/layout.html to test uploading your data. (You will first need to sign into Greenhouse.)
Steps to upload Excel Data to MashupHub and create a data feed:
1. Create "New Feed"
2. Select the feed data source "Excel Workbook", click "Next"
3. Fill in Optional fields Header Row, Range, worksheet number
4. Upload the file. -- Select "Browse" to find the .xls file on your local file system.

Hi John,
Thank you for your quick response.
My question was triggered by the big "Publish" button in the Excel Import tool :)
I am aware that one can expose excel as as a feed in the Hub.
But, what we see at our customers is that they reside comfortable in their little Excel "macro" environments, and that it would be a valuable add-on for them to publish excel data to the hub from that same excel environment.
I saw features like this in Jackbe's software as well and it brings mashups even more closer to business users and so adds to the DIY experience.
I know that the tool is provided as-is, but I think it would be valuable to have such a function in a future update of the import tool.
Thanks,
Taco

Mr. Feller,
Excuse my sudden intrusion on your discussion, but I'm afraid I need to ask about the Excel Feed you described. I have repeated the process you have described, yet I am in need of dynamic updating of the Feed. For example, I have an excel/csv file saved on my desktop which is the source of the feed on mashups. I have this widget on a Page on Mashups Center. It shows the data in the excel/csv file correctly. BUT if I change the data, and save again (in excel 07), then refresh my Mashups Page... the data is unchanged.
Please Help
Kindly appreciate your time

Tarek,
Mashup Center is built with an assumption that users have interim stages of a spreadsheet before you expose the data to others. Just a you might do currently, you modify the spreadsheet several times, and then (when just right), you mail out to your team.
So instead of mailing out the spreadsheet via email, you have to do an explicit "Publish" of the Excel data by using the web page dialog screens to upload the data into Mashup Center. Hope this helps.
But if you are on the "receiving" end of the data, and your spreadsheet points to the URL of the feed, then this "MC Import for Excel" technology should help you easily "Refresh" the data in your spreadsheet with the most up-to-data feed data. Simply use the "refresh data" function supplied by this technology.
