Hi,

It will be greatly appreciated if someone can tell me whether TSA can be used for both HA and DR.

Here is the HA and DR scenario. Site A (New York) has a DB2 production database, and Site B (Seattle) has its DB2 HADR standby database. At each site, there are two servers allocated for the TSA cluster. The HA/DR requirements are if a local server fails, TSA should fail over the local DB to the local standby server. In the event of the site A failure, then TSA should automatically crown the DB2 standby DB at site B as the production DB.

Can TSA be used for the above scenario? If it can, I would appreciate someone outline the high level setup.

Thanks,

Jim

Yes, streched TSA clusters are possible.

Nodes of a TSA cluster do not even have to be on the same Layer-2 Ethernet VLAN, but you would have to use VIPA with dynamic routing (eg. OSPF) to fail-over an IP address. (Alternatively you could dynamically change the DNS name-to-IP-address mapping during fail-over between the two sites and restart all clients.)

In your planned setup, you should pay attention to node quorum. A fifth node at site C would be perfect.

Another option would be to have two seperate TSA clusters at site A and B and use TSA Application-Manager (End-to-End Automation) to coordinate the failover between the two TSA clusters.

regards, Armin.

Armin,

Thanks for the TSA stretched cluster and TSA Application Manager information.
Can you point me to any paper or documentation? I would like to know more about how to set it up.
