This tutorial is part of the "Did you say mainframe? e-kit".
Explore a new feature in Version 7 of WebSphere® Developer
for System z™: z/OS Database Application Generator. z/OS Database
Application Generator automatically generates CICS® COBOL programs that can
access DB2®. It also generates a Web service, as well as the Job Control
Language (JCL) to assist in the deployment of the generated code. In this tutorial,
you will get a quick introduction to this feature and walk through an example
scenario in which you transform UML to COBOL. Note: Starting with Version 7.1,
WebSphere Developer for System z has been renamed to Rational Developer for System
z.
Objectives - Learn how to generate COBOL from UML, create a z/OS DB2 table, deploy the
CICS services, and test them using the test facilities provided by the WebSphere
Developer for System z tools.
- Learn how wizards can help you generate COBOL and JCL assets without
writing any code.
Prerequisites
This tutorial is written for developers who are not familiar with CICS Web
services or Java code, but some basic programming concepts are required. You
should be familiar with z/OS, COBOL, JCL, and DB2 concepts.
System requirements
To code the example described here, WebSphere Developer for System z Version 7 is
required. If you want to modify the UML model provided, you also need to have
Rational® Software Architect
available on your workstation. If you plan to deploy the generated code to z/OS,
you need CICS Version 3.1 or higher and z/OS DB2 Version 7 or higher.
