Learn the basics of IBM WebSphere® Host Access Transformation Services (HATS). This tutorial includes demos and two practical exercises that teach you how to develop, transform, and test a rich client application. The client application is then deployed in a production Eclipse Rich Client Platform (RCP) environment.

In this tutorial

  • Create a HATS rich client project, a signon macro, a screen customization, transformation, and a screen combination for a zSeries application

  • Learn to use HATS to build native client applications.

Prerequisites

You should be familiar with one of the IBM Software Delivery Platform products that HATS supports, and have some knowledge of zSeries applications and Eclipse Rich Client Platform.

System requirements

To complete the steps in this tutorial, you'll need a system with Microsoft® Windows® and WebSphere Host Access Transformation Services Toolkit V7.0 installed on an Eclipse-based, IBM Rational® Software Delivery Platform product. The toolkit is compatible with Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software V7.0, WebSphere Development Studio Client V7.0, or WebSphere Development Studio Client Advanced Edition V7.0. IBM Rational Application Developer is used in this tutorial. Download a free trial version of WebSphere Host Access Transformation Services Toolkit V7.0.

Internet connectivity is also needed to interact with the sample terminal application used in this tutorial.

HATS rich client applications can be deployed directly to Eclipse RCP or Lotus Expeditor Client. Therefore, an Eclipse RCP or Lotus Expeditor Client that HATS 7.0 supports must be installed on your system.
