The IBM® Informix® Web DataBlade® module is a collection of tools and functions with components installed in both the Informix database server and the third-party Web server to ease development of intelligent, interactive, and dynamic Web-enabled Informix database applications. In this tutorial, walk through the steps to set up an Apache (2) compatible Web server, such as IBM HTTP Server 2.0.47, to work with the Informix Web DataBlade Module version 4.13.UC3 on UNIX® or Linux® platforms.

Objectives

  • Get an introduction to the basic elements within the architecture of an Informix Web DataBlade application on UNIX or Linux

  • Install the Informix Web DataBlade product in both the database server and the Web server machines

  • Configure a database in Informix to store and serve dynamic Web pages

  • Run the Websetup utility in both the database and the Web server to configure the Web DataBlade in them

  • Configure the Web server Apache (2) to use the Informix Web DataBlade driver for a specific virtual directory that corresponds to the Web DataBlade Admin Tool

Prerequisites

This tutorial is written for Web application administrators and/or DBAs who have experience with dynamic Web applications.

System requirements

This tutorial assumes you have access to a UNIX or Linux database and Web server machines. Also, the architecture used for all the products on the examples in this tutorial is 32-bit. If you plan to use 64-bit, consult the documentation for the 64-bit Web Datablade Module to check for the right webdriver program and instructions that might change for 64-bit. Also, verify that 64-bit Apache is compatible with your version of Web Datablade.

To run the examples in this tutorial, you need:

  • IBM Informix Dynamic Server (IDS) 9.40 or later installed on the database server for the UNIX or Linux version you are using. You should have DBA access to this server.
  • Binary installer programs for IBM Informix Client SDK (CSDK) 3.00 or later and the IBM Informix Web Datablade Module 4.13 compatible with the UNIX/Linux version of both your database server and your Web server (See Resources).
  • Binary installer program of an Apache (2) Web Server compatible with your UNIX/Linux version on the Web server and also supported by your Informix Web Datablade version. The version used in this tutorial is IBM HTTP Server (IHS) 2.0.47, compatible with Web Datablade 4.13 (32-bit). For information about IBM IHS server you can go to the IBM HTTP Server.

To check for compatibilities between the different products involved in the Web architecture (IDS, Web Datablade, CSDK and Apache web server) and the system requirements of the different Informix products on the platform you are deploying them, you can review the Release Notes and Machine Notes of the Informix products involved. Most of these documents are available in the Informix Library.
