Learn how to use the IBM® Data Studio Administration Console for health and
availability monitoring. Follow the generation of three simulated real-world server
problem situations, see how the health and availability capabilities surface these
situations, then use the problem determination capabilities to diagnose and fix the
situations. Objectives - Become familiar with the main functional areas of the Administration
Console.
- Learn how to use them to monitor your databases.
- Learn how to use them to diagnose problems with your databases.
Prerequisites
To complete the tutorial, you should:
- Have a basic understanding of IBM DB2®
- Have access to a 9.5 FP1 DB2 server
- Be logged in as a database administrator
System requirements
While the Data Studio Administrative Console supports several operating
systems, this tutorial was developed and tested on a Windows XP machine that
meets the following requirements:
- 512MB in the installation directory
- 512MB space in the temporary directory
- 512MB of RAM

Tutorial overview
This tutorial introduces the Administration Console of Data Studio. Several
scripts are provided in the tutorial that will be used to inject simulated, real-world
problematic situations.
You will use the Data Studio Administration Console to see that a problem has
occurred and to determine how to resolve the problem.
