Q replication is a new, high-speed technology for moving transactions between DB2® databases. It's a highlight of the just-released WebSphere® Information Integrator Version 8.2. One of the reasons Q replication is so fast is that it uses the powerful business integration product WebSphere MQ to zoom data across networks in the form of compact messages.

In this tutorial, you'll learn how to set up a straight forward Q replication scenario: one-way or unidirectional replication between two remote databases. As a bonus, you'll learn how to create and use WebSphere MQ queue managers, message queues, and channels that provide the transport layer for replication.

In this tutorial

You will learn:

  • How to create and use WebSphere MQ queue managers, queues, and channels.
  • How to enable a DB2 database for replication
  • How to set up and operate the Q Capture and Q Apply programs
  • How to create a replication queue map to link the source and target databases
  • How to create a Q subscription to map a source table to a target table

Prerequisites

None.

System requirements

To complete the steps in the tutorial, you'll need the following software:

  • WebSphere Information Integrator Replication Edition for Linux, UNIX, and Windows Version 8.2. You can download a trial version of the product. Trial versions of the following products are included:
    • DB2 Universal Database for Linux, UNIX, and Windows Version 8.2
    • WebSphere MQ Version 5.3
This tutorial will work on any of supported platforms for WebSphere Information Integrator Replication Edition for Linux, UNIX, and Windows.
