Learn how to create and use user-defined routines in IBM® DB2® 9. This is the last tutorial in a series of nine tutorials that you can use to help prepare for the DB2 9 Application Development certification exam (Exam 733).

Objectives

  • Learn how to create and use user-defined routines in DB2 9

  • See how you can use these server-side database application objects to simplify and speed up your applications

Prerequisites

Before taking Exam 733, you must pass the DB2 9 Family Fundamentals exam (Exam 730). You can use the DB2 9 Family Fundamentals tutorial series to help prepare for that exam.

For this tutorial to be useful, you should have background knowledge of how a relational database works as well as basic knowledge of the following concepts:

  • Databases
  • Database programming constructs
  • Application compilation

System requirements

You do not need a copy of DB2 9 to complete this tutorial; however, you can download a free copy of DB2 Express-C from the DB2 Express-C Web site to practice your skills. The DB2 Developer Workbench is also available for download free of charge from the DB2 9 Fix Pack Web site.

Please take note that some of the material discussed in this tutorial only applies to DB2 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows, and not for DB2 on other platforms such as System z or System i.
