In this exercise, you will create a simple piece of business logic in the Java language and then generate a SOAP/HTTP interface for it in Rational Application Developer Web perspective of IBM Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software V7.5. You will then use the Web services explorer included in the Rational Software Development Platform to try out your Web service.
This exercise demonstrates how a developer can build, deploy and test dynamic Web applications using WebSphere Application Server Community Edition V2.1 (WAS CE) and Eclipse. You will leverage Eclipse Galileo to setup, deploy, and test a Web services
application against WAS CE. In addition, you will also explore the capabilities of the
Eclipse Web services tool for generating Web services, as well as embedded tooling in WAS CE that aid in creating WSDL files and source. This exercise will appeal to developers, managers or IT professionals who are currently building and deploying simple Web applications on Tomcat or other open source application servers.
Rational System Architect lets you visualize, analyze, and
communicate your organization's enterprise
architecture and business process analysis. It increases your
competitive edge by improving your real-time decision-making.
In this exercise, you will use the analyst tools included in
Rational System Architect Version 11.3 to highlight and reveal important facts about the relationships between systems in a sample architecture to formulate plans for system changes.
Note: When you start your online trial, you have four hours to explore the products and exercises within the Sandbox. If you exit one trial and begin another, you have whatever time remains of your original
four hours to complete the successive trial. To continue
working beyond the end of a four-hour session, you must
register for a new session to begin the trial anew.
The online trial experience allows you to try software products without having to install them on your
own system. This is product-level code, with all features and options enabled.
Client software
The online trial program uses the Citrix XenApp Presentation Server (formerly known as the MetaFrame Presentation Server) to provide you a connection from your workstation to the remote server running the IBM product you are evaluating. You will need to download the latest XenApp Web plugin appropriate for your operating system.
If you are installing Citrix for the first time, you will see a popup window that asks for the address of the server hosting your published application. Leave the Server Address field blank and click Next.
If you do not have the Citrix Web plugin installed when you attempt to access the online trial, you will be prompted to install it.
Supported browsers
Microsoft Internet Explorer V6 or later and Mozilla Firefox V1.5 or later are
supported.
Connection speed
We recommend that you use a high-speed connection while evaluating software online. Because the session you will be using is running remotely over the Internet with unpredictable delays and latencies, you should not use your experience with the session as a guide to the performance of the tools when installed in a local environment.
