This page describes problems that have been reported with free trial IBM software featured on developerWorks and on the developerWorks Software Evaluation Kit DVDs. Where fixes are available, they are provided.
Problem:
Installation prompts you for a license key, but you don't have one.
Workaround:
When you install this product, you'll see a prompt that asks for a license key. Select Cancel to continue the installation. You don't need a license key to install Rational Performance Tester unless you plan to emulate a load of more than five concurrent virtual users. (See the installation guide that comes with the download for information about purchasing a license key in this situation.)
Problem:
When installing some features, the IBM Installation Manager requests Disk 7 of Rational Software Architect V7.0, but the DVD only has Disk 1 to Disk 6.
Workaround:
The Windows version of the SEK includes only the default feature installation files for Rational Software Architect. If you attempt to install additional features, the installer looks for CD images that are not included on the SEK DVD. You have two options for proceeding:
- Click the Restore Default within the IBM Installation Manager to automatically select only the features that are available from the DVD.
- Use IBM Installation Manager to modify the default Rational Software Architect featured installation provided by the DVD. The Installation Manager links to a remote repository that contains all the available features in several Rational trial products, including Rational Software Architect. The process is as follows:
- After installing Rational Software Architect from the DVD, close Rational Software Architect and the Installation Manager installer.
- Launch IBM Installation Manager, which is installed withRational Software Architect. (On Windows® platforms, use Start > All Programs > All Programs > IBM Installation Manager.)

Connect Installation Manager to the remote trials repository. From the Installation Manager menu select File > Preferences > Add Repository and provide the repository URL. The repository URL for this product is https://www.ibm.com/software/rational/repositorymanager/repositories/rationalsdp7. You will need to provide your IBM registration ID/PW (this is the ID you use to register for the SEK or for any other IBM software download).
The network pipe icon indicates when you have a connection. There is also a test button to verify the repository link.
- Installation Manager will check its own revison level and ask permission to upgrade. Accept this request.
- When the update is complete, choose the Modify button to add or delete features from the default Rational Software Architect installation produced by the DVD image.
Note: You can use Installation Manager to add more Rational trial software products as well as manage incremental fixpacks.
Problem:
The license control software for the Workplace Client Technology, Micro Edition trial V5.7.1 expired on 30 April 2005 and will not enable the trial after that date. This problem and workaround applies to both the Linux and Windows versions of the trial code.

You can download an updated version of the Workplace Client Technology trial code from the trial download page. This version has been updated to correct the license control problem.
