IBM® Data Studio provides database developers and DBAs with an integrated, modular environment for productive administration of DB2 for Linux, UNIX and Windows. It also provides collaborative database development tools for DB2, Informix, Oracle, and Sybase.
Data Studio also provides an integrated development environment that can optimize, secure, and simplify database applications that are enabled with InfoSphere® Optim pureQuery Runtime.
As of Version 3.1, IBM Data Studio consolidates the capabilities previously found in Optim Development Studio, Optim Database Administrator, and Data Studio Health Monitor into a single offering.
In the Version 3.1.1 release, we included the InfoSphere Optim Query Tuner client in IBM Data Studio to help DBAs and SQL developers optimize the performance of SQL statements in applications that query DB2® for Linux, UNIX, and Windows databases and DB2 for z/OS® subsystems (see InfoSphere Optim Query Tuner Solutions for more information).
For an overview of the components in Data Studio, see the Getting Started topic in the Data Studio Information Center.
IBM Data Studio is a fully licensed product available at no charge and with no time restrictions. Download Data Studio now and try it with a free database, DB2 Express-C.
For most installations, you need one client component (full or administration); for job management and health monitoring, you also need the web console component.
Use the Quick Start Guide to help you get started with a basic installation of IBM Data Studio.

** Download IBM Installation Manager (112MB), which is a tool that enables you to download the product code. The size of the product code itself and the download time required varies according to the product components and language you select.
The estimated download time over a 1.5Mbps connection is approximately 29 minutes for the administration client. For the full client, the approximate download time is 1 hours and 47 minutes. For the Web console, the approximate download time is about 23 minutes. When you use Installation Manager, the download time can be significantly less depending on the features that you choose to install.
Full client or administration client: Not sure which to choose? The administration client is a lighter weight offering for non-Java™ routine development that is ideal for administrators to get up and running quickly and easily. The full client adds in an integrated Eclipse development environment for database administration, routine and Java application development, and query tuning that can be installed with other IBM software products so that they can share a common environment. Compare editions to find the one right for you.
