Examine company procedures for selling and distributing a software application
Determine the method of packaging the various components of the application
Implement engineering and manufacturing plans
The application and database should now be fully operational and well tuned, and the
documentation updated. The system is now ready to be distributed either internally, or to
customers.
This step addresses how the application, DB2, and the converted database will be deployed to the target users (both from a marketing and an installation perspective) and how updates/fixes will be made available. If the application is used internally, considerations for hosting the software and database as well as resources for the access mechanism (web server and more) should be addressed. Access to documentation, training, and support should be defined and provided to the users as well.
If the application is to be sold commercially, there are usually additional needs, such as marketing materials, sales training, documentation, support plans, and advertising (to name a few). The complete list of requirements should be dictated by your company's internal procedures for releasing a software application.
