JDK Version and JDBC support
Cloudscape supports JDK and SDK versions 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, and J2ME support. The supported JDBC APIs are JDBC 2.1, JDBC 3.0, and a subset of JSR-169.
Selecting the correct installer type
You can choose between three Cloudscape installation packages:
- The Java installer can be used on any platform that supports Java and has a graphical user interface. The Java installer has been verified on SUSE Linux, Red Hat Linux, Fedora Linux, IBM AIX, Sun® Solaris, Mac OS X, and Windows. The Java installer does not include a Java Runtime Environment. You must have a Java Runtime Environment already installed on your system in order to use this installer.
- The Linux installer is for use on any Linux platform running on an Intel 32-bit (x86) processor. The Linux installer includes the IBM Java Runtime Environment 1.4.2 Service Release 2 for Linux.
- The Windows native installer is for use only on Microsoft Windows platforms. The Windows installer has been verified on Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003. The Windows installer includes the IBM Java Runtime Environment 1.4.2 Service Release 2 for Windows.
On UNIX® platforms using the Java installer, please note the following:
- You may need to increase the number of file descriptors for the installation to succeed.
- The installer proposes
/opt/ibm/Cloudscape_10.1 as the installation directory. In most cases you will want to override this suggestion. If you choose to accept the default location, verify that you have permission to write to this directory before beginning the installation.
Be sure to read the installation instructions for additional information.
