Overview

Db2haicu is a tool available with DB2 9.7 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows, and stands for "DB2 high availability instance configuration utility." This utility takes in user input regarding the software and hardware environment of a DB2 instance, and configures the instance for high availability using the Tivoli® System Automation Cluster Manager.

The HADR feature of DB2 9.7 allows you to have one hot standby copy of any DB2 database such that, in the event of a primary database failure, a DBA can quickly switch over to the hot standby with minimal interruption to database clients. However, a HADR primary database does not automatically switch over to its standby database in the event of failure, but requires a DBA to manually perform the takeover operation.

The db2haicu tool can be used to automate such a HADR system. During the db2haicu configuration process, the necessary HADR resources and their relationships are defined to the cluster manager. Failure events in the HADR system can then be detected automatically and takeover operations can be executed without manual intervention.
