This document outlines proven practices for using prompts and parameter maps in ReportNet and IBM Cognos 8 (Framework Manager) to increase model flexibility, decrease maintenance, and improve performance. This document addresses the effects of parameter maps and prompts on SQL generation. Other factors such as dimensional information and determinants play a role in generating SQL, but that is not covered in this document. Differences between Model Query Subjects (MQS) and Datasource Query Subjects (DQS) will be touched on where applicable.
