No budget for education or conference travel this year? Tired of webcasts that provide more style than
substance? Join our team of experts for a series of low-key and low-cost (free to you!) technical chats designed to get you up to
speed on technology and products related to data management, data-centric application development, and more -- and they are only an
hour, so you can fit them into your schedule.
The focus of these online technical briefings will be on products and technologies in the Data Studio and Optim portfolios
(Integrated Data Management).
These online technical briefings are free. To participate, simply click on the appropriate registration link below.
We recommend that you join the briefing a little
early to do a system check.
You will need:
- Reliable high speed access to the internet (at least 200 kbps up and down); LAN or broadband connection is strongly recommended.
- Computer with soundboard
- Headset or computer speaker and microphone
- Windows 2000 or Windows XP
- Internet Explorer 5.5 or later, or Firefox 1.5 or later
- Screen resolution set to 1024 by 768 pixels
Each session may be recorded and each attendee may have the capability of distributing this recording. Each participant's use of recordings
and participant information is subject to U.S. and international privacy laws.
So Data Studio is now Optim, except where it isn't. We know there will be lots of questions, so let's use this first low key lunch and learn to get some of the
facts on the table and get answers to such questions as: Is it just a rename or are there real integration points between the old Data Studio and Optim technologies?
Can someone explain what's free and what isn't? What are the new products? Where can we get trial downloads? What products support which databases?

Formerly known as Rational Data Architect, InfoSphere Data Architect is a foundational data modeling technology for any data-centric design and architecture work.
In this overview session, you'll learn about features and functionality, but you'll also get hints and tips on getting started. A must-see for anyone who does data architecture,
modeling and database design and hasn't worked with this tool before.

Confused about Data Studio, Data Studio Developer, and now Optim Development Studio? Get a tour of Optim Development Studio and an understanding of the
additional features over "free" Data Studio and Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software. This is very cool stuff, and we'll have more sessions later to do deeper dives into
some of the technology.

Stored procedure development is one of the areas we get the most questions about. In this first session, get familiar with Optim
Development Studio capabilities and then create, deploy, and run a stored procedure. These capabilities are similar across all DB2 platforms, so DB2 for Linux,
UNIX, and Windows stored procedure developers are encouraged to attend.

The previous session covered debugging on the client machine. Now let's move into a more advanced configuration (we'll briefly describe the typical setup)
and get into more details and hints and tips on using the debugging capabilities for z/OS stored procedures. We'll also describe how you can use Rational Developer for
System z to augment your stored procedure development.

DB2 has a great optimizer, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't learn and practice good SQL coding techniques. Learn about new tools
to help advise you on writing better SQL -- while you're in the middle of development!. And if you code Java using a framework, you can still tune the
generated SQL. Our experts will go through a few scenarios to help you understand the tools in action. DBA won't want to miss this either as the Query
Workload Tuning capabilities are demonstrated as well.

Ever been up late trying to pinpoint a performance problem in a Java environment? Or worse, trying to find where the problem might be buried in all of the data? Tired of the finger pointing among staff when performance is an issue? Find out how you can create exception monitoring metrics, track and measure performance indicators and quickly diagnose performance problems when they arise using DB2 Performance Expert and Extended Insight Feature to make the process easier and more efficient.
