This paper explores some of the frequently asked questions about database administration on an IBM Smart Analytics System data warehouse database.
The frequently asked questions are grouped into the following categories:

The questions and answers in this document apply to several generations of the IBM Smart Analytics System environment with configurations based on System x® and Power Systems™ servers. Alvin Law is a senior member of the World Wide Data Warehouse Consultant team and has over 25 years of experience in Information Technology with responsibilities ranging from project management to database applications development. system and database administration. He has gained this experience in retail, distribution, transportation, manufacturing, banking and insurance sectors. Alvin has worked with data warehouses starting with DB2 Parallel Edition. His focus has been on build, delivery, validation and implementation of Balanced Configuration Unit/Smart Analytics Systems since 2005. He continues to work closely with customers to help ensure their success in implementation, migration, expansion and Smart Consolidation projects.
Enda McCallig is a DB2 Data Warehouse QA Specialist in Information Management in the IBM Dublin Lab. He joined IBM in 2009 having previously worked as a database consultant in the banking sector. Since 1997 Enda has worked on database development, design and administration on a variety of platforms. His work is currently focused on testing warehouse features on very large data warehouse environment.
Garrett Fitzsimons is a Data Warehouse Best Practices Specialist based in the IBM Dublin lab. He has worked with transactional and data warehouse database applications since 1990 on a variety of vendor platforms. Garrett is currently focused on developing and promoting best practice guidelines for all areas of data warehousing and is dedicated to helping customers implement data warehouse and business analytics solutions on InfoSphere Warehouse and the IBM Smart Analytics System.
