Installing WebSphere Business Monitor This installation guide provides instructions for installing and uninstalling WebSphere Business Monitor 7.0 and optional features.
-
Installing the monitor database You can install the monitor database as part of creating a stand-alone or deployment manager profile, or you can manually create the database by running the database script files before or after profile creation. In a network deployment environment, it is best to create the database before starting the deployment manager and creating other custom profiles.
-
Creating and augmenting profiles After you have installed WebSphere Business Monitor, you must create at least one profile to prepare your runtime environment. You can create and augment profiles either through the Profile Management Tool or through the manageprofiles command. If you are using z/OS or the 64-bit version of WebSphere Business Monitor, you must use the manageprofiles command.
-
Migrating to WebSphere Business Monitor 7 Migrating allows you to move from one product to another or one version of a product to another while preserving configuration information and user applications. WebSphere Business Monitor provides the necessary tools to migrate an existing environment to the new version 7.0 environment.

Developing monitor models
These documents tell you how to develop process models that can be monitored.
-
Developing monitor models The IBM WebSphere Business Monitor development toolkit provides the tools for creating monitor models that can be transformed into executable code for WebSphere Business Monitor. The toolkit runs on WebSphere Integration Developer or Rational® Application Developer, and includes the Monitor Model editor and the WebSphere Business Monitor test environment.
-
Monitor models A monitor model describes metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) (collectively called business measures), their dependencies on incoming events, conditions warranting business actions (business situations), and outbound events that report these conditions and might trigger business actions.
-
Creating monitor models To create a monitor model, you first create a business monitoring project and then create a monitor model. The model contains a details model, a key performance indicator (KPI) model, a dimensional model, a visual model, and an event model.
Administering monitor models
This section describes how to install a monitor model and perform various administrative tasks to maintain that model.
-
Installing and administering monitor models You can install WebSphere Business Monitor models using either the WebSphere Application Server administrative console or scripts.
-
Administering your monitoring environment This overview describes the WebSphere Business Monitor administrative functions.
Testing and debugging
-
Testing monitor models in the test environment After you have created a monitor model, it is essential that you test it as part of iterative development. Such testing is performed on a running monitor model within the WebSphere Business Monitor test environment. In the test environment, results of the tests are displayed in Business Space where you can quickly verify that the metrics are being collected correctly and that your calculations are correct.
-
Debugging monitor models If you find a problem while testing your monitor model or if you just want to understand how your monitor model gathers information, use the debugger that is included with the WebSphere Business Monitor development toolkit. You can submit events to a version of your monitor model that is running in the debugger and manually step through the processing to understand what happens when each event arrives.
Monitoring
Using WebSphere Business Monitor, you can access critical business data from a browser, a mobile device, or from your desktop.
-
Dashboards Dashboards are typically designed to provide quick access to important information. WebSphere Business Monitor supports the following dashboards: Business Space, Business Space for WebSphere Portal, and portlet-based dashboards.
-
Monitoring from a mobile device You can view a mobile version of a WebSphere Business Monitor dashboard using either your BlackBerry, iPhone, or iTouch mobile devices. From the dashboards on mobile devices, you can monitor alerts, key performance indicators (KPIs), and human tasks.
-
Monitoring from your desktop In WebSphere Business Monitor 7.0, the implementation of desktop components (gadgets, plug-ins, and add-ins) enhance your ability to access WebSphere Business Monitor data. These desktop components are designed so that you can easily add them to your local environment. The current set of desktop components are only available for the Windows operating system.
Security
-
Managing security To provide a secure environment for WebSphere Business Monitor, you must enable both administrative security and application security. Use the Security Configuration wizard in the WebSphere Application Server administrative console to enable or change security for WebSphere Business Monitor.
