Release 3.1 of the IBM Autonomic Computing Toolkit is a collection of IBM Self-Managing Autonomic Technology components, tools, scenarios, and documentation that is designed for users wanting to learn, adapt, and develop autonomic behavior in their products and systems. These tools, technologies, and scenarios can be grouped into three main categories: problem determination, solution installation and deployment, and integrated solutions console.

You can download scenarios that show how these technologies can be used in realistic situations.

Where do I start?

See what the Intel Technology Journal has to say about the substantial amount of self-managing autonomic technology found in the IBM Autonomic Computing Toolkit, and how it enables practical implementation of self-managing autonomic technology-based capabilities, in their article Towards an Autonomic Framework: Self-Configuring Network Services and Developing Autonomic Applications.

Problem determination: For problem determination tools and technologies, see the Build to Manage Toolkit for Problem Determination R01 site, which details seven packages that bring the power of autonomic computing problem determination to your desktop.
Solution installation and deployment:    To begin to understand the Solution Installation and Deployment architecture, we've created a set of scenarios that demonstrate the self-configuring aspect of self-managing autonomic technology. These scenarios focus on different implementations of the architecture:
  • Solution Installation and Deployment Samples scenario
  • Solution Installation and Deployment scenario with FLEXnet Publisher Installation Module (FNPIM)
  • Solution Installation and Deployment scenario using Solution Architect and InstallAnywhere

The Samples scenario is a teaching tool, introducing the core components that make up the Solution Installation and Deployment architecture, and then relating them together to illustrate the benefits of the architecture.

In contrast, the FNPIM and InstallAnywhere scenarios show you how you can package your own software solutions using these self-managing autonomic technology components. Both scenarios perform the same installation, but use different install engines from IBM partner Macrovision. For more detailed information on the scenarios, see the Solution Installation and Deployment Scenario Guide .

Integrated Solutions Console: The Integrated Solutions Console is used to build effective common systems administration capabilities. The Integrated Solutions Console, a self-managing autonomic technology component, provides the infrastructure to help consolidate the user interface in a heterogeneous IT environment. This consolidation can help develop more effective managed systems. The Integrated Solutions Console is demonstrated in the Solution Installation and Deployment Samples Scenario.

How do I become an autonomic computing business partner?

After you download and try out the tools and technologies in the Autonomic Computing Toolkit, you might be interested in using the self-managing autonomic technology components in your own products. If so, we'd like to tell you about our business partner program.
