Happy 10th Birthday! IBM developerWorks

Celebrating 10 years of IT leadership

In September 1999, IBM developerWorks began a journey to become the destination on the Web for developers and IT professionals to stay ahead of the latest trends in open standards, develop skills, solve problems, and collaborate with peers. Over the last ten years, IBM developerWorks has expanded its focus from open standards technologies to include IBM products, and has grown from a single worldwide site in English to multiple local sites in 8 languages. The most popular offerings are still articles, tutorials, downloads, and forums, but developerWorks added new ways for the community to collaborate using wikis, spaces, and code exchange. In April, a radical transformation started with My developerWorks, bringing developers new ways to network, learn from each other, and work together. But the journey isn't over yet -- there are even more exciting developments in the future. No matter what changes, one thing remains the same: developerWorks is still a Web site by developers for developers.

Thanks for being part of the IBM developerWorks community. Join us as we celebrate the journey of the last 10 years!

From the community...

"I signed on to developerWorks in its first year, 1999. I was delighted to have such a wide-ranging, technology-tolerant source of quality developer education available, for free. developerWorks has been my key professional resource and partnership from its commencement, and I owe it big time."
— Russell Searle (rsearle)

"As a project leader, head of Information department and network administrator I have looked for information on products offered by IBM, trends of information systems development and visited developerWorks regularly since 2003. I rely on bookmarks in developerWorks and it saves my time."
— Tomas Balciunas (Ekranas)

"developerWorks pretty much helps me every day. The first thing I do every day is open Notes, GMail, a newspaper site, and several forums from developerWorks. You can find me in the Lotus 6/7, 8, 8.5, WebSphere Portal and Sametime forums."
— Sebastian Fratini (Sebastian_Fratini)

"Like most geeks these days, I don't know everything, but I know where I can find everything quickly. developerWorks is definitely one of the resources I use to learn quickly when I need to."
— Brian Benz (BrianBenz)

"I use developerWorks as a focused network to communicate with professionals from the Gurus to the users. Through developerWorks, I get to hear what people have to say, learn new ideas, get technical information and more. I like to think I don't just gain from it but also contribute. More than anything,
I use it to answer questions in Rational ClearCase and ClearQuest forums. I enjoy solving users' problems."

— Tamir Gefen (Tgefen)
